Where to see the most beautiful lavender fields in Provence?

June begins, and with it the lavender blossom! Between late June and mid-July, the plateaus and hills of Provence are decked out in a beautiful bluish hue. A magnificent sight that attracts all lovers of this emblematic regional plant. Because so many of you ask me where you can admire the fields, I’m sharing my favorite addresses with you here.
The Valensole plateau: a must for lavender lovers
When we think of lavender, we inevitably think of Valensole. Situated between the Durance valley and the Gorges du Verdon, the plateau is certainly one of the most popular spots for lavender flowering. With its perfectly geometric valleys, bewitching scent and brilliant colors, this plateau offers visitors an enchanting setting and a unique spectacle! You can also enjoy the sunflower and wheat fields of the surrounding area, which add a touch of magic to this exceptional setting! The only downside is that, victim of its own success, the plateau is often overrun by tourists from all over the world, who are not always respectful of this magnificent place… My advice: go to the charming village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, just a few kilometers away, which is well worth a visit. Nearby, you’ll find a lovely lavender field that’s less frequented.

Sénanque Abbey in Gordes: combining culture and nature
Located near Gordes, one of Provence’s most beautiful villages, the Abbaye de Sénanque is still in operation. Founded in the 12th century by a monastic order inspired by the aura of Saint Bernard, its Romanesque architecture is soft and pure. The monks of this magnificent abbey are themselves lavender growers. From mid-June onwards, the lavender fields surrounding the monument are in full bloom, adding an extra touch of enchantment to this sublime setting. If you’re visiting the region, don’t miss a visit to the hilltop village of Gordes, which has been voted France’s most beautiful village on several occasions.

The Plateau de Sault: a walk at the foot of Mont Ventoux
Established in the 11th century on its rocky spur, the village of Sault overlooks a plain cultivated with lavender, lavandin and small spelt, offering visitors a unique blend of colors in summer. This pretty village is the ideal starting point for climbing Mont Ventoux or visiting the pretty perched villages in the surrounding area. These include Ferrassières, the capital of fine lavender, which celebrates the blue flower every year on the first Sunday in July. This festival marks the start of the harvest, and thousands of visitors flock here every year.
Around the plateau, take the time to follow the mythical Lavender Route through spelt and lavender fields, discovering the landscapes of Provence on itineraries off the beaten track.

The village of Grignan: a getaway in Drôme provençale
Located a little further north in the Drôme Provençale, the village of Grignan offers exceptional landscapes as far as the eye can see. The lavender blossom season is a magical sight. The village is also famous for its château. This Renaissance palace was home to the Marquise de Sévigné, who wrote some of her famous “Correspondances” here. For a truly unique experience, don’t hesitate to visit. Surrounded by lavender fields, it offers a magnificent 360° panorama.

Note that the best time to discover these places is between the last week of June and the second week of July, when the fields begin to be cut.
